A Reflection on Past Passions, Dreams, and Rediscovering Them
Motherhood is a beautiful, life-changing experience. But if I’m being honest, it also comes with a shift—a shift in identity, in priorities, and in how we see ourselves. One day, I looked in the mirror and asked, “Who was I before I became Mom?”
The answer? Someone with big dreams, wild ambitions, and a heart full of curiosity.
The Many Versions of Me Before Motherhood
Looking back, my dreams were all over the place. And honestly? I love that about myself. It means I was always searching, always growing.
👩⚕️ The Aspiring Cardiologist
In school, I wanted to be a surgeon—not just any surgeon, but a cardiologist. The human heart fascinated me, and I was determined to spend my life studying it. But somewhere along the way, I realized that path wasn’t for me.
🎨 The Artist Who Loved (and Then Loathed) Structure
So, I shifted gears and pursued art. Creativity was my outlet, and I thought turning it into a career would be fulfilling. But when I found myself boxed in by guidelines, rules, and rubrics, the spark faded. The freedom I loved about art felt suffocated by structure.
💼 The Business Explorer
After that, I went the business route. I earned a general business certificate, thinking maybe entrepreneurship or management would be the answer. It gave me practical knowledge, but I was still searching for something that truly lit me up.
And then, life took a turn I never expected: Motherhood.
Losing Myself (and Finding Her Again)
Becoming a mom was the most incredible transformation I’ve ever experienced. But with it came a strange feeling—like the past versions of me had faded into the background. My days became a blur of diapers, feedings, and sleepless nights, and I started to wonder:
💭 Am I still the same person?
💭 Do my old dreams still matter?
💭 Can I be “me” and “Mom” at the same time?
And the answer is: Yes.
Rediscovering the Pieces of Me
The truth is, I’m still that girl who dreamed big. I’m still curious, creative, and full of ambition—I just had to find new ways to channel it.
✨ My love for understanding the human heart? It didn’t disappear. Now, I explore the emotional side of the heart—how we love, heal, and grow through life’s changes.
✨ My passion for creativity? It’s coming back in new ways—through writing, storytelling, and connecting with other moms on this blog.
✨ My interest in business? It’s not wasted. If anything, it’s fueling my journey as I build something meaningful with Still Me, Mom Edition.
You Can Rediscover Yourself Too
If you’ve ever felt like you lost yourself in motherhood, I want you to know: You’re still in there. Your past dreams, passions, and interests aren’t gone—they’re just waiting for you to dust them off and see them in a new light.
Maybe you don’t want the exact same things you did before. That’s okay. But don’t stop exploring. Don’t stop dreaming.
Because being a mom is an incredible part of who we are—but it’s not the only part.
